Recommended Math Curriculum

My research area is applied mathematics so I am very patient about my children being math literate. There are so many curriculums on the market to choose from and some of them that I may not even be aware of are fantastic and some are terribly boring. Math shouldn’t be boring. Math is about building roller coasters, flying and creating beautiful structures. I am not a fan of workbook math curriculums. I love to see curriculums that are hands-on and allow students to touch and feel and have a concrete understanding of what various concepts mean in their world. I am not an affiliate for any of these companies. These are just the systems that I know and really love. If there is another math curriculum that you are interested in and don’t see it on this short list feel free to get in contact and I will take a look at it and give you my thoughts on how it compares to these and others.

Right Start Math:

Right Start Math is a math curriculum that allows for hands-on learning which eliminates much of the abstracton in mathematics. It includes beautiful hand on manipulatives which help in concrete understanding of each of the fundamental math concepts. Age beginning to early high school level. We used this curriculum until we reached middle school. The only downside is that the manipulatives take a bit of space to store them but it is so worth the effort. http://www.rightstartmath.com/

Beast Academy:

Beast Academy is for the math student that needs to be challenged. It is created in a comic book format and just like comic books, it is creative, artsy and fun. There are actual physical books you can purchase and a format that includes an online app, book format. Ages 6-13. https://www.beastacademy.com/

Art of Problem Solving:

Beast academy and Art of Problem Solving are created by the same company. Beast Academy leads into AoPS. AoPS then picks up at the age 13 level or grades 5-12 in the American System. It is a challenging curriculum and really is best for a teacher that is confident in math topics. https://www.artofproblemsolving.com/
