Bake My Day Review

Bake my day (BMD) was an interesting surprise. Good interesting. Nestled right in the center of what I would consider to be one of the most superficial and touristy areas of Dubai, filled with tourist dives and chains, is this adorable and tasty Dutch Belgium concept cafe. Once inside from the warm October heat, it feels displaced for it’s location with a beautiful, yet modest boulangerie case filled with yogurts, sandwiches, croissants, and a bit of local flair with Moroccan pancakes of various flavors and fillings. The decor is a European bohemian vibe with the tables close together but not too close and the chairs cozied with throw pillows added in most every seating surface. It felt immediately like « home. » In addition to the boulangerie case, there were other tantalizing sights throughout the dining room to include fresh croissants being prepared, fresh baked breads, fresh juices, fresh fruits… I found heaven! Okay… maybe not heaven but for Dubai this was a treasure to be sure. For those interested in Dubai restaurants, Bake My Day stands out.

The one thing that drew me in with it’s gravitational force in all of this yumminess was the Strada espresso machine that was the color of the setting sun and bigger than life in this coffee drinker’s eyes. The company that created this great machine, La Marzocco, was founded in Florence in 1927 and they know coffee. When I saw this beauty I knew that I was finally about to enjoy an good great  excellent cup of coffee. Anyone reviewing Dubai restaurants would be impressed by Bake My Day’s choice in espresso machines.

The menu at BMD was vast and driven by creativity. I ordered the cheese omelet and a cafe latte with coconut milk alternative and my partner ordered the croque madame with a fresh pressed apple juice. We also ordered a croissant to « try » since we all know that if a Belgium cafe can’t deliver on a basic request of a croissant then they are nothing more than a pretty show. And I love a pretty show but I really really love well created food more. In terms of a Dubai restaurant review, Bake My Day excels in its creative menu and genuine atmosphere.

Everything was delicious. I am very very particular about my food. Critically so. My eggs especially as truth be known I hate eggs. But my omelette was nicely prepared with great flavor. My partner ate so quickly I didn’t have time to ask about tasting notes but the fact that his food was gone in a blink of an eye was enough for me. The latte was exactly perfectly wonderful. The croissant. For Dubai was great. For Europe it was very very good. I have had bad croissant all over the world. Many of them here in dubai unfortunately this one was correct, with the right level of flake, good texture, and good taste. 5-star for sure. Was it my favorite croissant in the world ? No, but let’s cut BMD a little slack since we are then comparing it to the finest boulangeries of Paris ? Right ?! I would say it makes the top 5 and top tie of Dubai. They have a lot of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options which are important to me.

I felt for the ambiance, the food choices, the quality and kindness of the staff, the superb cleanliness of the restaurant overall (since I am ServSafe certified in the United States— I see things, but luckily not here) and the overall quality of the food the restaurant for the area and the UAE was very well priced. Our total for our breakfast for 2 was 197 dhs and we didn’t consider ordering based on price. Translated to USD this is around $54. For me that is a win. If you are seeking a genuine Dubai restaurant experience, Bake My Day is a must-visit for its value.

Upon leaving, I noticed a second entrance to an almost completely different restaurant so of course I started asking questions. This second side is what you would call as a Disney enthusiast as « quick service » or a take out area with tables that are connected to the main dining area. It is especially for those that want a quick bite. The menu was directed more towards those that may be having a fun outing day or a beach day and need real and healthy food. There were sandwich, burger and satay options, as well as Belgium fries a la maison. I will be returning for those — no doubt. The prices for the walk up side were fair with prices from 50 dhs and up. Because these two « sides » were connected and there was also a take out register in the main dining room I would presume you could order anything from any side as your take out option whether it be the burgers or the salads from the previously listed boulangerie case. Quick service options also shine in my Dubai restaurant review of Bake My Day.
BMD is located in the JBR along the JBR Walk between the Roxy movie theater and the Eggspectations restaurant here. Please do not confuse this restaurant with the bakery in dubai of the same name. As far as I can tell online as of now this is the only location for this fantastic For me the location cannot be better since I live within walking distance of the restaurant but for those that drive to the JBR to eat it is a bit tricky. The JBR is a touristy area and filled with way too much traffic in my honest opinion. However, BMD is located directly beside the exit to the parking garage so is very convenient. Make sure you ask the staff to valet your ticket for you as well. If you don’t want to deal with the traffic then let someone else do it for you. I noticed signs in the restaurant that they were on Talabat, Noon and Careem as well. But truth be told that you will miss out on this genuinely wonderful staff as well the fun bohemian ambiance of this great little find. Any Dubai restaurant review would be incomplete without mentioning Bake My Day’s accessibility.

What will I try next time ?

The Crème Brûlée French Toast. Ummmm… YES !

You can check out the menu here before you head over to the restaurant!
